TheLinuxVault:About
From TheLinuxVault
The Linux Vault is a new wiki project founded by knithx with the mission of creating a centralized GNU/Linux information website. It has just been created, so we are begging everybody to take part of it and make it the place for writing guides, how-to's, configurations, administration tips, tricks, tweaks or whatever else related to the GNU/Linux system. We are currently setting things up, and we still have yet to explain what's the difference between our project, and all the others, like www.howtoforge.com. If you have any doubt, please contact us.

[edit] What The Linux Vault is Not
While we do welcome content from anyone who feels they have information to contribute to the GNU/Linux community, there are a few things that are not part of the design concept of this site.
- The Linux Vault is not Wikipedia.
- Information presented on Wikipedia is meant to be a reference material for any individual. While there is a great deal of information regarding Linux-related topics on Wikipedia, it does not behoove anyone to copy wikipedia articles. That's a waste of server space. This site hosts original material, and cites sources when necessary.
- The Linux Vault does not plagiarize.
- Anything taken from another source must be done in accordance with the license on the original material, and must be properly attributed. That being said, long segments of information (copying an entire guide), even when legally permissable, is not acceptable. This is meant to be a community-driven repository of information, not a hub of previously published works.
- The Linux Vault is not against proprietary software.
- The goal of The Linux Vault is both to provide new and intermediate Linux users with helpful information regarding setting up their systems, but also to attract new Linux users by making the Linux operating system easy to find, easy to understand, and easy to use. We do not do this by bashing Windows or Mac OS, but instead suggest how Linux can meet the needs of Windows and Mac users.
