Edubuntu is a popular Linux distribution based on Ubuntu, designed for school environments. It is aimed at schools and school districts looking to have a free operating system, with lower maintenance costs, and more stability.
Edubuntu offers a whole host of free and open source to administer and it also includes a lot of different applications to aid teaching. It is optimized for an LTSP setup, meaning that all of the computers in the network boot off of a central server.
It runs a Gnome desktop with a nice default theme. Xfce and KDE are also available, though they do not use the Edubuntu red theme.
The current version of Edubuntu is 8.04, with Hardy Heron being released in April.
