Defcon is a real time strategy game based around the theme of global thermonuclear war. The look and idea for the game were heavily influenced by the movie WarGames. The main aim is to annihilate as many civilians and units of the opposition in the alloted time. Each unit is equally balanced, with advantages and disadvantages - as such there is no definite means of winning. Introversion have stated they have their "arses handed to them" when they themselves play the game against fans.

[edit] Units
[edit] Ground Units
- Radar dishes provide radar coverage of the map. They are destroyed by a single nuke.
- Missile Silos had two modes. Air Defense Mode and ICBM Launch Mode. Air Defense Mode shoots down enemy aricraft and missile within range. ICBM Launch launches nuclear missiles at targets.
- Airbases launch fighters and bombers. Fighters are light aircraft useful for scouting. Bombers have a longer range and carry a single nuke. They refuel and re-arm at the airbase. They take two nukes to be destroyed, each nuke destroying half the units housed within.
[edit] Ships
- Carriers are armed with sonar for detecting submarines and depth charges for sinking them. They house fighter planes for defense and attack as they have no direct weaponry of their own.
- Battleships carry powerful weapons effective against other fleets and aircraft. They are vulnerable to submarine attacks.
- Submarines carry torpedoes and five nukes. They are invisible to radar, but carry no radar of their own. Active sonar can be used to detect nearby ships, but at the risk of being detected themselved. Subs must surface to fire nukes leaving them vulnerable to attack.
[edit] Aircraft
- Fighters are light and fast and useful for scouting enemy terrain. They have a short range but can be effective at destroying missiles or other aircract.
- Bombers carrs a single missile that may be fired at a nearby target. Bombers have a longer range to deliver this nuke but are vulnerable during the trip. Bomber missile launches are not announced to other players, as are launches from Missile Silos, making them stealthier. They have good defense abilities after the nuke is dropped.
[edit] Missiles
- Missiles will kill half the civilians in a city it hits. Successive hits from Missile Silos in Air Defense Mode will cause a crash with significantly lower casualties. Missiles can target fleets and destroy a target radius. They cannot change their target once launched, but can be disarmed mid-flight.
[edit] Installation
Requires the package build-essential in Ubuntu which can be installed via Synaptic or Add/Remove Programs, or via the terminal:
$ sudo apt-get install build-essential
