Brazil is a country in South America. It is the largest in size, population, and economy, and is also the only country in which Portuguese is the official language.

Brazil has become a large customer for FOSS and Linux-based systems in the 21st century.
- Conectiva, a Brazil-based Linux retailer and services provider, was bought by French-based Mandrakesoft in 2005, which was then renamed Mandriva to reflect the change.
- PC Conectado, a tax-free desktop computer venture by the Brazilian government, was launched in 2005. It comes with Fenix.
- BrOffice.org is a Brazil-oriented rebranding of OpenOffice.org.
- In 2007, Brazil's standards body voted against Microsoft's OOXML standards fast-tracking proposal.
