Audio Playback
From TheLinuxVault
An audio player allows you to play sound files of many types with a straightforward and streamlined interface.
Unlike an audio player, a music player is focused on music, and very frequently on helping you manage your music collection. Music players can incorporate many other useful features, such as connecting to online databases of lyrics and album data and managing your portable music player. One might think that by all accounts a music player is superior to an audio player, but sometimes you just want to play a sound file quickly and hassle-free.
On Linux, the line between the simple audio player and the music player is often blurred, and sometimes ignored altogether. This helps the end user by allowing them to find software that perfectly matches their needs and taste. Conversely, sometimes the middle ground is confusing to a new user and not sophisticated enough for a power user. Thus, in the following list, no distinction is made between the two.
